National Young Designer Award winner announced

Sarah Doblo was named ‘official fashion designer of the 2009 Golden Slipper Festival’, after winning the 2008 National Young Designer Awards at AAMI Golden Slipper Day today at Rosehill Gardens racecourse.
Of the10 talented finalists who were selected from heats held on Myer Sydney Confidential Ladies’ Day a fortnight ago, Sarah Doblo was rewarded with the national award for a design, which showcased her interpretation of quintessential Australian race wear.
The judging panel consisted of Myer ambassadors Jennifer Hawkins and Rebecca Twigley, AAMI Golden Slipper Festival ambassador and fashion designer Alex Zabotto-Bentley, designer Nicola Finetti and The Daily Telegraph Fashion Editor, Jen Molocco.
The crowd was treated to exceptional talent and a diverse range of styles, fabrics and patterns. In a very tightly contested final, the judges selected Sarah based on her irreverent take on modern racewear, her garment crossed a look from the 1940’s with 2008 fashion.
Being the winner of the National Young Designer Awards, Sarah Doblo walks away with a fantastic prize package sponsored by Myer and BMW including:
- $2,000 Myer gift voucher
- MYER in store installation of the winning garment
- Two weeks’ work experience at a Myer fashion show
- A BMW for the weekend with 2 nights accommodation at the Diamante Boutique Hotel in Kings Cross.
Sarah will also be invited to attend to a number of fashion duties for the 2009 Golden Slipper Festival, which includes dressing next year’s festival ambassadors. With the perfect launching pad following the awards, Sarah Doblo is sure to become a regular name on the Sydney fashion circuit.
