Nominations close for 2009 AAMI Golden Slipper

Date: 1/7/2008 -

Early indications suggest that nominations for the 2009 AAMI Golden Slipper are up by more than 4% on last year after nominations closed with Sydney Turf Club at 3pm this afternoon.

The Club has received 2,231* nominations for the world’s richest race for two-year-old compared to 2,129 nominations for 2008.

As expected, Australia’s leading trainers and breeders have featured heavily in the multiple nomination stakes. The emergence of new industry participant Patinack Farm is evident with the Segenhoe Valley-based breeder recording the highest number of nominations.

  • Patinack Farm  240 (nominations)
  • David Hayes  92
  • Gai Waterhouse 75
  • Lee Freedman  73
  • Sheik Mohammed 64.

STC’s General Manager – Racing and Wagering, John Nicholson, said that although the final number of nominations could not be confirmed until the coming days, the figure will definitely exceed last year’s response.

“The Club is pleased that nominations are up on last year,” Mr Nicholson said.

“It is testament to how the AAMI Golden Slipper is highly-prized by the leading breeders and trainers in Australia and New Zealand.”

* The final number of nominations could alter in the event of dual nomination (with both the trainer and owner paying the nomination fee).
