Slipper Dreaming breaks through for her first win!
It is with great pleasure that I write this update to inform all that Slipper Dreaming produced a fantastic run on Saturday May 3 to win the ABN Amro Asset Management Fillies and Mares Maiden over 1400 metres (Race 3) at Newcastle.
Those who weren't there or missed the race, I will give you a quick run down of how the race was run and won.
She started from an inside barrier (ended up being 1 after a scratching) and got away to a reasonable start which was positive as she was in the barriers for a long time.
After settling she was running around 4th on the fence and travelled really well. Once they rounded the home turn Mitchell Bell took her around the leader and she loomed up to take the lead, there was one challenger who ran right up to her but she found plenty in the last 50 metres to win by a short head. That is a pleasing win considering she was first up over 1400 metres.
After the race we had a quick chat with Allan Denham who said she was a lot better behaved this time in and showed that with her attitude in the raceday stall area when she was very quiet and stood there nicely. The new strapper that is working with her at the moment loves her and knows her attitude very well. He said to me before the race that she feels like a horse that might run well fresh and that proved to be the case.
Well congratulations to everyone in the Syndicate, it was a real thrill to be there and enjoy the spoils of being a winning owner.
I will speak with Allan this week to find out the plans for her and inform you all at that time, but as a general rule it is usually 2 weeks between runs, provided she has pulled up fine.
The photo attached shows Slipper Dreaming before the race in the warm up yard.
